The Brine-Bleach
The ocean isn't water. It's the Brine: a dense, iridescent fluid holding the drowned memories of a continent that died long ago. Touch it bare-handed and you live strangers' lives until your mind gives way.
The Atoll-Spines
Islands built from calcified memory, "salt," pulled from the sea with iron tuning forks and hardened into bone-white coral. Saltreve is the oldest, a white city on a ring of reef.
The Amnestic Wind
Six weeks a year, a wind that makes everyone forget. Every wrist carries an ink-bound journal. "Check your wrist" is how people say hello.
Ink
Written, it's the record. Unwritten, pressurized and fired from an Ink-Lance, it dissolves salt and memory back into meaningless Brine.
Brine-Rot
The weavers' disease. Their hands slowly turn to salt. At the end they kneel in the reef and become part of the foundation.
